ARVADA, Colo., April 18, 2011 – Arvada-based Barber-Nichols, Inc. (BNI) received a prestigious Jefferson Economic Council (JEC) Business Recognition Award on March 24, 2011. It was presented during JEC's Industry Appreciation breakfast held at the Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities.
"The Arvada Economic Development Association (AEDA) nominated Barber-Nichols for this award because of its continued growth and community support in the City of Arvada and Jefferson County," said Hazel Hartbarger, director for AEDA. Barber-Nichols, Inc. was founded in 1966 by Bob Barber and Ken Nichols. BNI manufactures specialty turbomachinery for customers including the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Department of Energy, in industries ranging from aeronautic, cryogenic and defense to power generation and commercial enterprises. Products include blowers, compressors, fans, pumps and turbines. BNI continues to realize steady growth and provide new jobs within the City of Arvada and Jefferson County.
BNI is a strong supporter of community involvement and especially recognizes the value of education and the arts. BNI contributes to scholarships at Red Rocks Community College and CU Boulder’s College of Engineering. It also supports young artists by sponsoring the annual Jefferson Foundation high school art exhibit.
